Illegal dump clean-up efforts to start in Potter County

The Bradford Era – New efforts to clean the sites of illegal dumps in Potter County are under way, paid for with the help of a settlement from allegations of environmental law violations.

In a settlement between Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co., the Commonwealth and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. has been ordered to put $540,000 toward a Community Illegal Dumpsite Clean-up Program in Potter, Pike, Susquehanna and Wayne counties.

Chris Mitterer, district manager of the Potter County Conservation District, said the organization will administer the program in Potter County, though he noted the district itself will not be getting money for it.

Mitterer said Conservation District resource conservationist Glenn Dunn II is coordinating the project with the help of the Potter County Solid Waste Authority and a program coordinator from the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC).
