PennDOT Releases Report on Cost of Littering

PennDOT Releases Report on Cost of LitteringButlerRadio.com -The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has recently released a report focusing on the cost of litter to residents and taxpayers.

According to PennDOT, the Department of Environmental Protection, and the organization Keep America Beautiful, the state spends about $13 million each year on staff and resources to pick up litter along state-owned roadways.

Over 500 million pieces of litter can be found along Pennsylvania roads with the majority being cigarette butts and plastic beverage containers.

A phone survey conducted last year resulted in these agencies forming a workgroup to develop a plan of action to change behavior and reduce littering. Visit the DEP’s website for more information.
